Radiologic Diagnosis of the Liver Disease

Abstract
The liver is located in RUQ of the abdomen with the upper surface of its right lobe in close contact with the diaphragm. The lower contour is usually identified on films of the abdomen unless it is obscured by ascites. The contour is mostly straight or slightly convex upward. The size of the liver can be estimated by ?fahler¢¥s method which consisted of drawing lines representing the length and the width, respectively (Fig. 1).
Radiological examinations of the liver include simple X-ray of abdomen, peritoneography with either air or a positive contrast medium and other more specific studies as indicated in Table 1. Among the radiologic informations which can be obtained from a simple X-ray of the abdcmen, calcifications of various shape and size are of particular interest. Judicial us¡Æ of such examinations as cholangiography and arteriography provides with us the most valuable and often decisive informations. Scanning or scintiphctcgram of the liver is very convenient and useful armamentarium to the diagnosis of liver diseases.
